 Texas Noise Ordinance

Fort Worth Ordinance #18449-02-2009

Noise complaints increase as industry expands production into residential areas.  Recognizing this, the City of Fort Worth recently introduced Ordinance 18449-02-2009 to manage the environmental noise impact of natural gas drilling and production operations within the City.

As part of the ordinance, all operators must submit a Noise Management Plan for permit approval.  This Plan must incorporate a continuous 72-hour pre-drilling Ambient Noise Level assessment and identify both the operational noise impacts and proposed noise mitigation processes for noise affecting Protected Use areas such as parks, schools, religious institutions and residences.  The Ambient Noise Level provides operators with location specific benchmarks for noise compliance in Fort Worth and mandates operational noise not exceed this level by more than five decibels during the day and three decibels at night.
